The 10th edition of Riot Fest takes place in West Chicago this September which features a forming marquee headliners like The Cure, Jane's Addiction , and The National .

He announced Tuesday night , the rock festival three days, punk and hip- hop , stretching 12-14 sept in Humboldt Park, also features headliners Rise Against, Social Distortion , The Flaming Lips , Weezer , and Wu -Tang Clan.

Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alekhina, the two Russian women who were recently from jail freed after being jailed for his performance protest of 2012 in a cathedral in Moscow, will also appear in a "special discussion interactive panel.” As dissident members of the punk group pussy Riot, Tolokonnikova and Alekhina have been pushing Congress to add about 20 Russian officials to a list of human rights violators, and have been touring the U.S. increased awareness about human rights abuses in their country of origin.

Also newsworthy is the return of Wu -Tang Clan, a group of influential hip- hop rarely performed live together, but has led to the career of the legendary MC Raekwon , Ghostface Killah , RZA , among others. The group is preparing to launch a comeback album later this year.

This year also appears in Humboldt Park: Slayer , Descendents, Tegan and Sara , Metric, Patti Smith, Taking Back Sunday , Die Antwoord , Paul Weller , NOFX , Gogol Bordello , The Afghan Whigs , Lucero , The Dandy Warhols , Mighty Mighty Bosstones , Hot Snakes , The Get Up Kids, Mudhoney, Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth , Superchunk , Billy Bragg, New Found Glory , Andrew WK , Kurt Vile and the violators , Marky Ramone with Bouncing Souls , Wavves , Anti -Flag , mouse and men, The Murder City Devils, Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, clutch, Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears , Dashboard Confessional , and many others. Legends clash of metal GWAR is also on the bill, despite the recent death of lead singer Dave Brockie.

Pioneering pop band Cheap Trick Rockford is also on the bill. Other bands include Chicago Naked Raygun, The Orwells, Archie Powell & the Exports, and my gold mask.

The festival of Samhain marked a meeting, horror punk band led by Glen Danzig in the mid- 1980s after its passage by the Misfits and Danzig before launching. The weekend will also feature a meeting of the pop-punk band The Offspring, celebrating its 20th year.

This is the third year of Riot Fest in Humboldt Park, and the 10th year for the festival in general, which has grown in stature, now company with festivals in Denver and Toronto.

Most notable about the lineup this year is senior list of the main headliners, which dwarfs Lollapalooza, a much larger festival held in Grant Park, a month earlier. In only about four marquee names at the top of his bill, this year's line -up for Lollapalooza has been criticized for its lack of star power; Riot Fest claims two headliners of the festival (The Cure and The National) since last year and even Perry Farrell, Lollapalooza patron that Jane's Addiction will appear in the Riot Fest with his band.

Organizers promise more band announcements are coming. Tickets are on sale. A three day pass is $ 99.98. According to the website, prices will rise three days during the summer, reaching 189.98 U.S. dollars. The VIP package $ 289.98 includes drink tickets, access to special privileges observation - and perhaps most importantly - private bathrooms.

Riot Fest 2014 Lineup Announced: Mini-Lollapalooza

While most festivals have already done, the little less known Riot Fest finally revealed its lineup Tuesday, and for many people, will kick off the summer shows. Adjusting for stops in Toronto , Chicago and Denver ( because apparently the developers are not interested in compensating the last minute of 2012 , unnecessary cancellation of the show in New York), the Bills have the likes of Janes Addiction , Slayer , Gogol Bordello , The Cure and a huge list of others.

To be held in September, the last years have seen much smaller lineups with as impressive a caliber of artist, and one is left wondering if the organizers are trying to jump in several days, the artist’s predictable car instead of sticking to the exact item that made only of the other. A more cynical fan of the music could even go so far as to say that from the look of this year's training and the longest time ( in cities not Chicago ) that those behind the festival have achieved become " just another weekend of music 'instead of bills and the dates fit the name.

It should be noted that not headliners that were announced are perhaps the most stellar, with bands like Stiff Little Fingers , The Buzzcocks and NOFX game sharing stages with artists like Die Antwoord , Kurt Vile and Patti Smith. However, even with a handful of bands that do not traditionally play festivals listed, it is hard to get around the fact that Riot Fest now seems little more than a mini - Lollapalooza.

Also, if you have tickets, pray that there is not even the least bit of rain, as the organizers canceled the shows hours ahead of time ... even if it may be long gone before the demonstration was set to begin.

No Lollapalooza Tickets? No Problem -- These Chicago Festivals Rock Just As Hard

So you did not get tickets to Lollapalooza. It was not even a "you snooze; you lose” situation - those passes were sold out in minutes, not hours. Fortunately, Chicago has much more to offer in the way of live music festivals. Here are five of the music festivals driven neighborhood favorites that will not give her back to the door:

Do Division Street Fest

undoubtedly, the area of Wicker Park / Bucktown is ideal for the great festivals of music. First: Do Division 8th Division Street. With two stages , a conservatorship Empty Bottle nervous concert hall , the other by Subterranean, stage home for many of the rising stars of Chicago, it's no wonder this festival attracts big names in rock . This year's poster is looking fierce with dark heads cartel Bass Drum of Death and Screaming Females. Tip: Head of the empty bottle after closing the doors at night. Bands are known to put on free shows surprise after their performances at festivals. May 30 to June 01. Division Street between Damen and Leavitt Avenues.

Belmont- Sheffield Music Festival

Although the Boystown neighborhood is no stranger to a raging festival ( this house Pride Parade and Festival of Chicago ), the Belmont- Sheffield Music Fest breaks the mold by making this neighborhood block party all about the music . Thirty years strong, the festival lineup for 2014 features some of the city 's favorite tribute bands , including Kashmir (Led Zeppelin Tribute ) Trippin Billies (Dave Matthews tribute ) and Sixteen Candles ( 80 classic - think Molly Ringwald films and John Hughes ) . Tip: For an after party? Go to Sheffield Beer Garden, one of the best places in the courtyard of the city. June 7 and 8. Sheffield Avenue between Belmont Ave. and Roscoe St.

Green Music Fest

Ecological Wicker Park Festival highlights land lovers in all of us. With vendor booths with the environment and recycling containers garbage cans along the streets, this is one fest that aims to reduce its carbon footprint. Headliners this year are indie -rock Guided by Voices and features more psychedelic folk -rock the soil and sun. Tip: If you're bringing water from your home, make sure that you are using a reusable container. Plastic bottles are not allowed in the festival. June 21 and 22. Don musical collective of the neighborhood, the Old Town School of Folk Music , summer block party of Lincoln Square is already promising over 60 live performances during his three-day race . Spread over two stages; expect an eclectic mix of world music, highlights soul, jazz standards, and folk strummers, drum circles and more. Surrounding all are dance parties, jam sessions open, enjoyable activities for children and food from some of the most beloved neighborhood restaurants. Tip: Do not miss the drinks. Wicker Park Fest

Again, Wicker Park is ideal for outdoor music live instead. Wicker Park Fest in particular is known as a worthy competitor and “The Artist budget “alternative to major league players Lollapalooza and Pitchfork Music Festival. The talent this year is yet to be announced closing time, but last year's list including Cults, Ted Leo and Roky Erickson, our expectations are high. The Scheduling Puzzle Of Lollapalooza

As organizers juggling acts in the 137 3 days, 8 stages Lollapalooza festival in Chicago

Three days, eight stages, 137 acts. For the organizers of Lollapalooza, reserve the right combination of bands baby up and comers and the headliners is only the first challenge. Then you must solve a puzzle programming constantly changing to meet the fans, avoid traffic bottlenecks feet, and bands get in and out of the land at the time.

Although the selection of the best talent is fairly predictable (Lolla bookers say some big names have already been hung for summer 2015), the sub - headliners are always in flux. "At this time last year I had not even heard of Lorde," says promoter C3 Presents Huston Powell.

Last summer, after the teen singer from New Zealand reached its radar, booked him a Lollapalooza in Chile. By last October, his song “Royals" was breaking, but she only had a handful of small gigs in the U.S. However, he offered her a plum slot Friday night on a main stage in Chicago. "Pretty unprecedented for a first act, first record," he says.

Lollapalooza has a huge footprint, which occupies 115 acres in Grant Park in Chicago. Organizers try to keep attendees circulating, avoiding the cardinal sin of putting their two favorite bands at the same time. C3’s office in Austin, Texas, Grid programming is edited in a spreadsheet.

"Every day you look at the time intervals, to the point where you are going blind," says co -founder C3 Charles Attal. They look out for gender conflicts (rappers Eminem and Outkast are on separate nights) and employ some counterprogramming. For example, the American stars of the Avett Brothers will be performing at the south end of the park when the rapper Childish Gambino is on the north end.

Some of the major events this year, including Outkast, Lorde and Arctic Monkeys are also set to perform on the same weekend at the Osheaga festival in Montreal. So Lolla team contacted promoters in Canada to ensure plenty of cushions in the lists of others to travel at least 10 hours between locations, including a border crossing.

And then there is the imperfect art of displaying 137 names on the Lollapalooza website for the announcement of the lineup in the spring. Bands that ended in the bottom of the list this year: Highly suspicious, Plastic Visions, Oyinda, Rocky Business. Creating Poster alignment “is an exercise in itself," says Mr. Attal. "There are 20 calls from managers and agents to get deals done and then you get 20 calls on where they are on the line."

SOSNICK | Lollapalosers And The Music Festival

If you woke up tomorrow for the headline Pitchfork: " Haim, Danny Brown, Real Estate Scrotum play Bent Festival, " I would not do a blink. I did not even push myself enough to write the name of the party at Google,

let alone considering setting aside money for a ticket. Not that I do not like any of those acts - I know firsthand that Haim puts on a great live show , Elder was one of the best albums of hip- hop of the year and Atlas , while overrated, is a solid LP . Is that, not only is the market for music festivals saturated to the point of ruin, but even the ads concert season is becoming incessantly annoying.

My relationship with music festivals is the textbook definition of love-hate. For one, there's no better way to see three days of live music, but there is no better way to stand 150 feet away from a stage. Festivals have a critical mass of people who care deeply about music, but also have a critical mass of the top of the tank and enthusiasts club drugs.

At its most basic, a place to promote music appreciation and see a lot of great bands for flat fee level festivals is wonderful. In fact, my obsession with live music is due in large part to Osheaga 2012, but every year people what is increasingly seen as a bacchanal orgy that a series of outdoor shows animated. This phenomenon is not limited to Montreal - worldwide, the holidays are still primarily seen as big parties and expensive with very good background music live.

If there were only one or two festivals by region each summer, would roll with the heads of music and party leaders alike. They have diverse backgrounds and each would be able to grow your own character. But if everyone and their grandmother candy- flipping have access to seven different festivals, they continue to lose its cache and musical approach rather is healed fraternity parties.

As there is plenty of money to be made in the marketing of a rock festival as if it were a rave, monotone and shows with overlapping acts are appearing even in less culturally relevant corners of the country. If you build it, although, apparently, they will come - as evidenced by last contest Schick razors. Promoted by such creators respected musical trends, the winners can go to any music festival based in USA free.

With eight and a half gazillion festivals naturally come eight and a half gazillion ads festival. So, as the own festival season, festival season announcement has become a cultural phenomenon. “Bonnaroo Governor Bola blows out of the water " , "I cannot wait until the fall Firefly tickets next week !" And "I had to do the alignment Hangout Fest?

Duuuuuude, " all issues have become standard conversation between marginally involved musically. Weighing the small differences between the festivals that are largely the same has become a hobby of sorts. Almost every day I wake up to the news of one of about 20 acts playing in a field or park.

I would think that there is a substantial difference between each festival without name, but simply is not. Every year there are a handful of bands that goes on the festival circuit, so that the largest source of basically identical lineups . Debate on their relative merits splitting hairs just.

That said, you should go to a music festival. Go for the right reasons: Attending Osheaga to see the city of Montreal, the closest to your home for convenience or souvenir Bonnaroo lifetime of your friends how they smell after four days without a shower. No fetishize the festival experience, either. It is a way to see a lot of bands in one sunny weekend with just one ticket. Music, friends and good cheer should make it memorable enough.

I defend myself still fighting the good fight, though. Instead of schlepping 15 hours to its fifth summer party, get involved in your local music community. For the same $ 250 as a festival pass, you can see 50 DIY shows in his hometown.

For the uninitiated, I would say DIY show is more like a frat party than a festival is. With the exception of live music, which basically consist of horny people guzzling cheap beer and sweaty colliding in a gloomy basement? But what frat party than a couple of great bands you've never heard expose? These acts need your support more than Foster the People do.

Plus you get bragging rights - interesting indie cred you saw them before they became so dominant. Because the guy who eats instant ramen three meals a day is not the same power curated by parts Coachella loft as it does, many of the bands can suck. But if the worst happens, you get to mosh, chug some malt liquor, support a cause and have a big ' ole time.

Thinking Ahead Can Help Save Bucks At Music Festivals

A balloon floats between stages Lollapalooza at Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago. The 2014 music festival season is upon us. With a little forethought, it is easy to reduce excess spending and enjoy music and emotion. (Scott Eisen | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS (2013))

As the air gets warmer and spring flowers, the music festival season is upon us. From Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Tennessee in June to Lollapalooza in Chicago in August, music lovers across the country will soon begin attending festivals; you can draw hundreds of thousands of fans.

It's easy to get caught up in the excitement and spend a bundle on everything from tickets to places water bottles. But with a little forethought, it is easy to reduce excess spending and enjoy the music and excitement without breaking the bank.

BEFORE YOU GO:
Tickets are generally expensive, but if you plan well in advance, at least can shave some money and buy early bird discount. Cheapest rates, consider whether you want to buy a day pass or two instead of a full festival pass.

Camping is the cheapest lodging option, of course. But if that's not an option, or if you prefer to stay in a hotel, book your hotel before your ticket recommended Andrew Young, editorial director of North American travel site Travelzoo . The cheapest hotel rooms fill up quickly, and flights can be more flexible.

Also make sure to check for a secondary airport in the region of the party that could have the cheapest rates. And if you have a day or two to spare for your vacation, come a day early and leave a day late, when the cheapest flights are more likely , says Young.
